Human Trafficking: A Horrendous Reality

ACTIVITY PURPOSE/CONTENT SUMMARY:

This course fulfills the Florida Legislative licensing requirement for physicians, advanced practitioner registered nurse, and physician assistants. Human Trafficking is recognized as a form of "modern day slavery" and has been linked to multiple types of exploitation of victims from all ages, ethnicities, genders, nationalities, and sexual orientations. The activity content provides healthcare practitioners with an overview of human trafficking, opportunities to glimpse the life of human trafficking victims, tools to assess and identify potential human trafficking victims, available resources and national and state referral services.

AUDIENCE:

For the education of physicians, APRNs, and PAs that may have contact with potential victims of human trafficking.

OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of this CME activity, participants will be able to:

1. Define human trafficking and factors that contribute to human trafficking.

2. Explain differences between labor and sex trafficking.

3. Discuss recruitment practices utilized by human traffickers.

4. Discuss interviewing strategies and tools available to assess and identify suspected human trafficking.

5. Describe processes for reporting suspected human trafficking.

6. Identify and describe local and national resources for aiding human trafficking victims.
